About Us

Gundog Gear

Gundog Gear was founded in 2007. We're an online retail business selling gundog training and shooting equipment, outdoor clothing and footwear.

In 2020 Myself (Matty Harrison) & my wife (Hayley Harrison) purchased Gundog Gear from Gary & Emma McCarthy to sit alongside our main business, Pet Shack Pet Deli.  A RAW food outlet based in Liverpool.

Since the purchase we have created a physical shop based in Liverpool selling a small array of Gundog training essentials from whistles to dummies.  Smocks to wellies.  Everything you will need to be in the field whether trialling, shooting or simply going along to enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts.

In 2019, Gundog Gear went green! We are doing our best to try to help the environment by using paper packaging on our parcels which can be fully recycled. We have also got our major supplier Firedog to agree to cut down on the packaging they use when sending us products. So you will see that none of the Firedog dummies, training vests or leads come in plastic bags, and all tags are made from materials which can be recycled. We are in talks with our other suppliers, and hopefully they will follow suit soon too.

We hope that our customers will follow our lead and recycle all the packaging we send, and as much other stuff as possible!

Matty Harrison - Partner, Gundog Gear

Being a dog enthusiast and a lover of all animals since being a small boy.  I have always enjoyed spending time outdoors and finding fascination in all working animals and the art of training them up using their inbuilt abilities.

It didn't stop there.  The country pursuits also peaked my interest from a very early age.  Whether this be fishing, falconry or even equestrian.  But the latter did not end well as I now have a slight fear of horses after a few mishaps!

Born and raised in Liverpool.  University came along before starting work within the mental health sector for 10+ years.

Roll on to the point where we got our 1st springer, Ollie (Jimmy Stormhock). we finally set up our own RAW food business after switching him from kibble. Seeing the unfathomable change in his fitness and overall health from what we thought was a "healthy dog". From that day on I have been hooked on the working dog and what a dog he was!

Our pack grew over the years to 4 spaniels.  2 springers (beating, peg and picking up dogs) and 2 cockers (Trialling dogs) All of which bring different elements to our game.

Eisa our working cocker bitch was our leap into working trials and tests. Educating each other as we went from the start and meeting some fantastic people.

Training with Gary of Wirral Gundogs, the previous owner of Gundog Gear is how myself and my wife, Hales ended up purchasing the business in July 2020.

Our aim is to provide quality products that we ourselves try and test before releasing them on the market.

We as people are extremely moralistic in life and we operate the same high standards within our businesses.  With country sports under the spotlight.  We donate 3.5% off all our sales to, The National Gamekeepers Organisation in a bid to protect our rural pursuits as well as keeping a close eye on the countryside and all those who work in a positive effect to maintain it.

Our Unique selling point is to offer friendly advise for both dog and handler and to create  returning customers for the business in order to help it grow.

Hayley Harrison - Partner, Gundog Gear

Hayley grew up in the coastal of Liverpool, Crosby.  working closely with dogs and horses and has always been passionate about the countryside. She worked for the Earl and Countess of Derby looking after their art collection, and was based on their estate in Knowsley, Lancashire. There she was introduced fully to the world of shooting and conservation including a highly memorable (!!!) day beating across the Derbyshire moorland looking for grouse! Having owned dogs all her life, she was incredibly impressed with the gundogs on the estate, and when she met Gary in 2007 she began to learn all about training working gundogs.

We run Gundog Gear together as a husband and wife team – Emma doing all the office-based work and Gary training dogs whilst field-testing new products (and avoiding being in the office whenever possible!)

Good Luck from us both at GUNDOG GEAR - we hope to hear from you soon!
